AUSTIN SECRET SINGLE TRAIL - 8K
The Slaughter Creek Trail - this is an incredible unique and fun single track trail, ideal for the trail running enthusiast. The big loop is 5 miles. The trail was built and maintained by volunteers of Austin Ridge Riders and Austin Metro Trails and Greenways under a special agreement with the City of Austin. Oh, and by the way, Slaughter is the name of an intrepid pioneer who founded this area, not a morbid indication of the surrounds!

Austin trail running enthusiasts are spoilt for choice in this great town. The single track experiences in South West Austin put you in a rural, bushland setting amongst local native fauna and flora. There is a chance to see deer, and mountain cats and dogs, all very friendly.
The carpark and entrance of the Slaughter Creek trail houses a historic pastoral homestead, the trails are remnants of the cattle and horse herding that complimented the farming activities of a by-gone era. Leaving from the homestead, we immediately hit the single track and stay on that trail for a solid 5 miles, passing through undulating and diverse landscapes. At one point, we pop out at a high point for some orientation of the local area, and short glimpse of the suburbia landscape in the distance, then plunge back into the depths of the scrub and vegetation.
The trail is inconsistent and rocky. It is advisable that you have done some trail running prior to tackling this great fun track.
